04 Dec Spaces Between My Front Teeth: Are Lumineers an Option?
Do you have spaces between your front teeth that make you feel self-conscious to smile around others? Spacing between teeth is a common smile imperfection that can be caused by orthodontic issues and decay around the edges of teeth. When orthodontic treatment isn’t enough to close the noticeable gaps of a smile, some patients turn to Lumineers, a cosmetic enhancement that is thinner than traditional porcelain veneers. Our cosmetic dentist is certified to provide Lumineers to patients in our community.
What are veneers?
A veneer is a cosmetic enhancement that is crafted from pieces of tooth-colored porcelain. Traditional veneers are slightly thicker than Lumineers and require tooth reduction for their application. Lumineers, like veneers, are permanently bonded over teeth to provide a straight, white smile.
How are Lumineers different from traditional veneers?
Manufactured by DenMat, Lumineers require less tooth preparation than traditional veneers because they are thinner. In fact, each Lumineer is approximately 0.2 millimeters thick, which allows our team to apply them without removing as much tooth enamel. Their razor thin construction also provides for a very natural appearance so that patients’ cosmetic dental work is less detectable to others.
What is the procedure for receiving this cosmetic enhancement like?
The procedure itself is minimally invasive. This means that patients will feel comfortable and enjoy a pleasant experience because shots and drills are not required to place Lumineers. Since this procedure is not invasive, patients will not feel tooth sensitivity or discomfort after their appointment. Patients will be able to drive themselves home and return to work after treatment.
How long do Lumineers last?
These specialty veneers are incredibly durable and with proper care and routine checkups, they can last about two decades or more.
