Sedation Dentistry Offers Comfortable Treatment

Do you feel nervous about visiting the dentist? We understand, and we want to help you feel relaxed and enjoy your time in our office. With sedation dentistry, we can help people with anxiety and special needs receive the care necessary to keep your smile strong. At your San Antonio, TX, dentist’s office, we can help you with sedation dentistry.

When Do You Need Dental Sedation?

Our team has been employing dental sedation for three decades to help our patients receiving dental care. If you or a family member have severe anxiety, we don’t want these fears to prevent them from enjoying their best smile. Sedation can help people with anxiety enter a calm and relaxed state, often conscious enough to respond to the dentist as needed. A calming solution could also help kids and those with special needs that make receiving dental care a difficult process.

Choosing the Right Treatment for You

We offer three different options for our patients, but how do we choose the right one? To get started, we look at your age, weight, medical history, and of course, your overall anxiety levels. These factors, combined with the complexity of the treatment you’re receiving, help us decide which option is right for you.

Three Possible Selections

Now, let’s talk about which options are right for you. Nitrous oxide is a very common solution, one administered through a mask over the nose. The patient inhales a gas and enters a calm and relaxed state, while still being able to respond to the dentist as needed. You will have little memory of the procedure. The effects wear off once the procedure ends. You can even drive yourself home or return to work or school!

The oral option is administered via pill or liquid prior to the procedure and offers a deeper state of calm. You will be conscious and able to respond to the dentist, but will have little to no memory of the procedure at all. The effects take time to wear off, so you may need to have a friend or family member on hand to take you home. IV is the deepest form available and again, the effects will take time to wear off. We will have a trained anesthesiologist on hand to monitor you throughout the process.
