Porcelain Veneers: A Custom Cosmetic Dentistry Solution

porcelain veneers San AntonioPorcelain veneers are the perfect solution for many cosmetic problems including teeth stain; broken/chipped teeth; uneven/malformed teeth; unwanted gaps between teeth; or receding gums.

Stains – when teeth are marred by difficult stain or are discolored due to medications, tobacco use, or lifestyle habits you don’t want to speak, eat, or smile in public. Having teeth cleaned on a regular basis is great to remove plaque build-up, but deep seated stain may not be removable with a dental office cleaning.

Breaks/Chips – Dental enamel or teeth may suffer from small breaks or chips that detract from your appearance. Veneers are a minimally invasive solution to cover these problem areas.

Uneven/malformed teeth – Short of undergoing long term orthodontic care or having teeth crowned, the best way to make teeth appear more even and symmetric is with veneers. Even if only one or two teeth are ruining your smile, veneers are appropriate to repair one or more teeth.

Gaps – Spaces between teeth can be due to a variety of reasons, but when they are unwanted, you can virtually close those spaces with veneers.

Receding gums – This is more than just a cosmetic issue. Sensitivity can occur as well.

Porcelain veneers are wafer thin, tooth colored shells that are made to match natural teeth in size, shape, and color. One of our cosmetic dentists will utilize dental impressions and artistic ability to fashion the veneers.

A small amount of dental enamel (about the thickness of the veneer) will be removed from the front of the tooth in preparation for veneers.  The dental lab will fabricate the covers based on the information supplied by the cosmetic dentist.

When ready, the veneers will be tried on to make sure they fit and match perfectly. Small adjustments can be made if needed. Once satisfied, the veneers are permanently cemented in place. The result will be a cosmetic enhancement that is not invasive and can be completed in a few dental visits.

Weakened teeth receive added strength; porcelain is stain resistant; and veneers produce long lasting results. Caring for teeth covered with porcelain veneers are cared for just like your natural teeth; but caution is needed with biting into hard or chewy foods. A broken veneer usually is not repairable, and would need to be replaced.
